The White Stripes, “Icky Thump” — Don’t be disuaded by the title track, which sounds like an electric bagpipe on crack before the classic Led-Zep riffage arrives. Yes, it’s experimental. But yes, it rocks.
Arctic Monkeys, “Favourite Worst Nightmare” — Catchy songs with hooks and biting lyrics. Kind of like if the original Monkees wrote amped up tunes from their gairaj and possessed talent along with a snotty Brit sense of humor.
The Beastie Boys — The Mix-Up. No lyrics. Just grooves. The soundtrack to your life, if your life was a 70s spy film or exploitation flick. Hey, there’s still time to make it that way, eh?
The Long Way Round — Ewan McGreggor and acting buddy travel around the world on motorbikes. Funny, painful, inspiring. A seven hour series that originally ran on the Discovery Channel. Put it in your que on netflix.
