Top 10 GT web, March 2-8 Comments

It was a good week for online hits here at the G-T, which, as often is the case, corresponded with bad news.

The No. 1 story of the week was “Crash kills HP engineer,” which got 2,419 page views. Other versions of that story came in at No. 8 and No. 11, and all told, those three articles combined for more than 5,000 page views.

The obvious lesson from this weeks chart is that when a life is lost, our readers care and find that important.

Overall, there were 13 stories with more than 1,000 hits. The previous week, which was pretty lame for whatever reason, there were only six such articles.

Yours truly represented only through the Crime Watch. But I’m confident that the curious case of Rip Van Winkle’s name will land me near the top of the pops next week.

Anyway, here’s the rest of the top 10:

2.) Beavers to prove experts wrong in 2009 — 2,375 page views

3.) City declares rental property hazardous — 2,308

4.) Reversal of fortune — 1,876

5.) Sunny Brook tenants negotiating their exits — 1,835

6.) Nurse sues Good Sam — 1,491

7.) Middle schooler proves to be math prodigy — 1,486

8.) North Albany craash kills Hewlett-Packard engineer — 1,406

9.) Crime watch — 1,352

10.) Driver hits cop car, blames burger-eating buddy — 1,293

Notes: Two days of Letters to the Editor came in at No. 16 and 17, each with more than 800 page views. Yes, if you write a letter to the editor, people really do read it, both online, and, of course, in the print version. “What’s that up in the sky?” was at No. 37, with 535 page views. It’s been up there a month, and it beat my saga on Corvallis’ skate park. I had such high hopes that story would go viral throughout the skate community, but, apparently, the grublings are too busy shredding to go online. With that detail, I’ll sign off and go cry in my beer.
