A few quick notes from this red-headed reporter…

ZIP-LINES: Went for a mini-vacay to Southern Oregon this weekend, and had a blast at Out’n'About. Didn’t stay in the treehouses at the spot near Cave Junction, but went on the zip line course, which was a ton of fun. You fly at about 35 mph.

And I also nearly wet my pants on the Tarzan swing, where you get lifted 40 feet into the air before being dropped and whooshing away. Wish I had the video of me screaming like a little girl.

I also drove through the Wildlife Safari, and got to see giraffes and bison close up, which was cool, but trust me, the zip line experience is where to spend your moolah.

‘UP,’ ‘THE HANGOVER,’ ‘PUBLIC ENEMIES’: Haven’t been to the movies this much in a while, but these films also are well worth your dime. Of the three, I’d recommend “the Hangover,” which was filthy fun and random. Missing tooth? Check. Mike Tyson’s stolen tiger? Check. Naked Asian dude leaping out of a car trunk armed with a tire iron? Umm, yep.

“Up” has perhaps the saddest beginning ever for a movie aimed at children, but it turns into a nice dose of silliness and whimsy, with a nice message to boot.

“Public Enemies” was pretty good, and Depp and the rest of the cast give great performances. But I wondered if this couldn’t have gone deeper into Dillinger. Lots of action and moments of nervous stillness. But, believe it or not, I wanted a bit more scope to the violent biography.

RANCID: A punk flashback is a good thing when it’s the real deal. (See Green Day.) Rancid’s new album, “Let the Dominoes Fall,” proclaims they’re the “Last One to Die.” Let’s hope so. Good stuff. And, interesting debate, in a battle of the true impact of 1990s music styles and scenes, does the Bay Area punk scene best Northwest grunge? Discuss.

GT TOP 10 ONLINE STORIES: It was a pretty crappy week for page views at the Gazette-Times, but that’s probably the norm for the week of July 4, when many people, including yours truly, were out camping and looking at rivers and trees instead of a computer screen.

Only four stories were above 1,000 page views. The usual benchmark for a good week is 10 over 1,000. Of note was that two obits were in the top 10. No. 11 also was an obit, of Sarah Jean Gutbrod. Here’s the list:

1.) Danny Finnen – 1,573 (obit)

2.) OSU athletics ahead of the technology curve – 1,421

3.) Body found in burning trailer – 1,122

4.) Car prowls hit northwest Corvallis – 1,004

5.) Crime watch (July 1) – 871

6.) Tanselli was tough competitor – 861 (sports obit)

7.) Fireworks: Boom or bust? 855

8.) Couple conquers the years – 823

9.) Don’t die on the Fourth of July – 818

10.) Bomb squad neutralizes two soda pop bottle devices at OSU – 779
